A TEST OF INITIATIVE AND NAVIGATION

Air cadets from 1220 (March) Squadron recently spent the day testing their navigation and initiative skills while on exercise in Thetford Forest. Each team, led by corporals, was given a map, then tasked with navigating to a location. On arrival, the squadron’s senior cadets set the group timed leadership exercises to complete.

Once they had successfully completed the exercise, they were given a map with a different scale and the location where their next exercise would take place.

The weather during the day was very wet and unpleasant, however this didn’t dampen the cadets’ spirits and both teams successfully navigated to each point and completed each objective.

Fenland Youth District Council recently awarded the Squadron a grant to purchase ten new rucksacks to use for day expeditions. This exercise was the first opportunity for the cadets to put them to good use carrying spare equipment, packed lunches and waterproofs.

Cadet Alan Jackson said, “The new rucksacks are really comfy to wear and I’ll definitely want to use one again.”
