Supporters, Friends and Families of 1220 (March) Air Cadets came together last Friday for the Squadron’s 6th annual Race Night. The evening, organised by volunteers of the Squadron’s Civilian Committee, consisted of a sit down sausage supper, followed by racing entertainment provided by the staff from the Conservative Club on Station road, March.
Local businesses were approached prior to the event, by the Civilian Committee secretary, Charlie Grigglestone, for sponsorship of the races. The kind sponsors for the races were:
Selby & Taylor opticians, The Barn Restaurant, The Oliver Cromwell Hotel, British Sugar – Wissington, John Clark’s Garage, The Lawn Mower Centre and Norwich & Peterborough Building Society.
The final race was auctioned off to the audience on the evening, helping to raise even more funds for the Squadron. The winning bidders were then able to name their own horses, which added a great deal of humour to the event.
The event raised a total amount of £540.55, after costs, towards the Cadets future activities.
Mr Grigglestone told us, “This was our busiest and most successful Sausage Supper and Race Night held to date. The evening has become a major annual fundraising event for the Squadron. It has proved to be a brilliant social opportunity for everyone to have a great night’s entertainment with a good old banger and mash supper”
The Civilian Committee, as well as staff at the Squadron, would like to thank all of the sponsors of the races, The Conservative Club for the venue and entertainment, Classic Catering for the food they cooked and served on the evening, and of course, the supporters, friends and families of 1220 (March) Squadron, who helped to make the evening such a success.
