Corporal Joe Goodman from 1220 (March) Air Cadets found himself being the talk of twitter after he was asked by the Air Cadet organisations new Group Captain VR(T) – former Loose Woman Carol Vorderman – to snap a selfie when she was unsure how to.
Joe was attending the Air Cadet National Band championships at RAF Halton where he found himself being introduced to Group Captain Vorderman. Group Captain Vorderman was recently “flown in” as the new Ambassador for the RAF Air Cadets – she becomes the first female honorary Group Captain Ambassador to the organisation.
Joe, who plays in the 1220 (March) Squadron band, qualified to attend at the Beds and Cambs Wing regional competition earlier in the year. The competitions include marching bands, percussion, ensemble, solo drum and solo bugle. Joe was also the star of ITV Anglia news earlier this year where he performed the Last Post as part of the Imperial War Museum’s 100th anniversary of World War I.
Other VIPs who attended included Air Commander Dawn McAfferty, who commented on twitter that the new Group Captain’s salute was “spot on!”
Corporal Goodman commented “Everyone at our Squadron knows that I love to take selfies, so I thought what better opportunity than to ask for one with our new Group Captain, and on her first official Air Cadet engagement. I did not expect it to be tweeted to over 300,000 people! It was an honour to meet her, and we hope that she may visit 1220 Squadron in her time with Air Cadets, as she was a student in Cambridge.”
